The IDEA support workers bargaining team met with senior IDEA management on Wednesday under the direction of a lead mediator from the Ministry of Business & Employment.
For the first time in months of talks we started to make real progress on getting better rights around full time jobs, Service Reviews and Health and Safety. But no progress was made on pay.
We had hoped that announcement of an equal pay ‘settlement’ of your court case against IDEA and others would have meant could now make a pay offer. IDEA said “NO”.
The equal pay ‘settlement’ offer announced this week means increases of three to four dollars an hour for many CSW’s. That’s great news. But the settlement, once it’s voted on, doesn’t apply until July.
This bargaining is about the rise that was due October last year!
(For more information on the equal pay offer check out www.etu.nz/news )
Your team asked IDEA to review its pay position and come back to us by the end of the day on Monday 24th with a backdated pay offer. If they do make a reasonable offer we will cancel the first strike but leave the second one in place while we continue to try and resolve all the other important matters.
The mediator has also arranged for E tū and IDEA to meet again Friday 5th – after the first strike but before the second strike scheduled for the 11thfrom 8 to 10. So, we may make progress then.
We will update members via the website or email on Monday but now the strike is on.
P.S. One of the common question asked is what happens to Service Users at 8.30 Thursday?
So, unless we get a better offer Monday be proud, stand tall, and take an hour off this Thursday from 8.30 to 9.30 am
PS Servicer managers are on strike this weekend. Wish them well!
