Workers’ training is a vital element of decent work – all workers should have access to relevant and rewarding education and training. This workshop will explore several opportunities to ensure that workers have access to training. The Future of Work, the Reform of Vocational Education, and the Government’s various Industry Transformation Plans all provide part of the answer. Getting to ratification: Convention 190 on Harassment and Violence Facilitated by: Carol Beaumont, ITUCILO Convention C190 ‘Violence and Harassment Convention 2019 – Convention concerning the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work’ is the most recent international labour standard.  It explicitly acknowledges that violence and harassment in the world of work is a human rights abuse and is unacceptable and incompatible with decent work.   In this workshop we will consider the content of C 190, how we can use it to progress change here by identifying the gaps between what is available domestically and what is covered in the Convention and how we can improve domestic provisions and ratify Convention 190 so that it provides a clear guidance on best practice in dealing with and seeking to eliminate this abuse.  We will specifically outline the campaign that has been developed by the Coalition for a Safe World of Work and how we can further strengthen the campaign. https://etu.zoom.us/j/82180557457?from=addon

Whakamana kaiako, whakamana tamaiti: how ECE teachers are fixing the race to the bottom in early childhood education, and why an FPA can help. Facilitated by: Stephanie Mills, NZEIEarly childhood teachers and NZEI Te Riu Roa campaign and growth team staff will share their ongoing journey to winning pay parity and growing power in the largely privatised ECE sector.    Teachers will talk about why quality early learning is an equity issue for tamariki and why decent pay and working conditions are critically important to supporting quality teaching.
