Genesis workers' petition

E tū members at Genesis are concerned that our current ability to work from home is only covered by policy, not protected in our employment agreements. That means it could be changed or taken away at any time, without our consent.

Working from home is an important benefit that makes a real difference for us, our families, and our communities. It should be secure, fair, and consistent – not left to management’s discretion.

By standing together and signing this petition, we can send a clear message to Genesis: this benefit matters, and it must be guaranteed in our agreements. Add your name and share with your colleagues.

Dear Genesis,

We, Genesis Employees in the Contract Centre, are writing to you today to request that the current status quo of two days of working from home per week are enshrined not only in policy but also in our employment agreement to show the commitment from Genesis towards their workers.

The ability to work from home is an important benefit for working at Genesis that provides value not just to the employees but to the company and its customers. It allows us to spend more time with our families and friends and shows the beginning commitment to a Just Transition around climate change.  Promoting less time burning harmful fossil fuels by commuting. It allows us to work comfortably and safely in our homes, away from potentially harmful infections and diseases that spread easily in open-plan offices. It allows Genesis to be a leader in a changing post-COVID working environment.

However, the current ability to work from home exists only as a policy that can be altered and changed without our consent. Many of us also feel that previous requests we have made to work from home were not given the due consideration from our manager, and we are concerned about the lack of consistency and transparency when we attempt to make requests. Additionally, we feel strongly that this benefit should not be a reward or a punishment to be given or taken away by the company at their whim. We believe that this should be a right of our employment, and should be fair, equitable, transparent, and secure.

We are writing to you today to request that the ability to work from home is respected and enshrined within our employment agreements, to give us the security and assurance that this important benefit remains a condition of our employment now and into the future.
