These are the basic rules we ask members to understand and agree to before joining. The full Union Constitution is available to download here.
- You agree to becoming a member of E tū Incorporated (“the Union”) and to be bound by and observe the Union Constitution, policies and decisions in accordance with it.
- You agree to pay Union fees at the rate set in accordance with the Constitution.
- You authorise the payment of your Union fees to E tū either by automatic deduction from my wages through your employer, or by direct payment using an individual payment method approved by the Union, including direct debit, bank transfer, credit or debit card, or digital wallet services. You agree that the payment method and frequency will be set in accordance with the Union’s Constitution or arrangements between the Union and your employer, and you understand that you are responsible for ensuring that your Union fees are paid in full and on time.
- Any change to union fees, made in accordance with the Constitution, will be communicated to you through appropriate communication channels, including electronic or digital formats. Such notification will constitute authorised advice of a change to deductions under this authority.
- You agree to provide the Union with your full and accurate contact and employment details -including postal address, email, phone number, hours of work, role, occupation and working site -and to promptly advise the Union of any changes to those details.
- You must provide at least 14 days’ written notice to resign from the Union. You must pay union fees up to the end of that notice period.
- You authorise the Union to represent you in relation to your collective employment interests including bargaining for a collective agreement covering your work. You agree to be bound by the outcome of any ratification procedure conducted in accordance with the Union’s Constitution.
- You authorise the Union to represent you in relation to negotiating or enforcing any individual employment rights or in any employment investigations and to represent you under section 236 of the Employment Relations Act.
- You accept that representation in employment matters will be provided in accordance with the Union’s Representation and Legal Assistance Policy.
- You acknowledge that the Union has no obligation to represent you in relation to any employment issues that arose prior to your joining the Union.
- You acknowledge that the Union has a discretion as to whether and how it may represent you in any matter including commencing or continuing legal proceedings and that you have the right to complain to the National Secretary if you are dissatisfied with any such decision.
- In accordance with the E tū Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 2020 you authorise the Union to obtain, hold and use your personal information for legitimate union purposes, including administering your membership, processing your direct payments, supporting bargaining, representation, wage, time records, and communication with you about union matters.
- You agree to receive communications from the Union, by post, email, text, or digital channels.
- You agree to receive notices and participate in meetings or ballots through electronic means, as permitted under the Union’s Constitution.
- If you are dissatisfied with any decision of the Union, you may raise a complaint or appeal in accordance with the Union’s Constitution and internal dispute-resolution procedures.
