VOTING IS NOW OPEN! Make sure you take the first opportunity to get along to a voting place and make sure your voice is heard.
The future of Aotearoa New Zealand for workers and our families is at stake this election. The Labour Government has made significant progress for us, including launching Fair Pay Agreements, minimum wage increases, doubling sick leave, the Covid response, a public holiday for Matariki, and record housing investment.
However, with high inflation and a cost-of-living crisis, we all need to make sure we re-elect a Labour-led Government to prevent a National/ACT Government from undoing our progress. Stand up for your community and make sure your voice is heard by voting in the General Election, Saturday 14 October.

How you can help
Of course, the most important thing is to get to a voting place and vote for a progressive, Labour-led Government. Do it today!
We also know that to win an election, we need to make sure as many people get out there and vote. That means contacting everyone you can to ensure they will vote.
Here’s an idea…
Choose five people who you think might not vote, or will be voting for the first time. Have a conversation with them about the importance of voting (you can use the information on this page to help you). Then get them to commit to voting, and check in with them every couple of days until they tell you they have voted. If everyone did this, we’d win the election easily!
Our wins so far
The Labour Government has done a lot of good for workers so far, but there is more to do. Here’s a short list of the things we have won under the current Government:
- Matariki public holiday
- 10 days sick leave
- Fair Pay Agreements
- Free prescriptions
- Record minimum wage increases
- The Cost of Living Payment
- Winter Energy Payment
- Paid Parental Leave increased to 26 weeks
- Cheaper childcare for 2-3 year olds
- Improved health and safety protections
(The National and ACT parties opposed all of this!)
There’s still more to do
E tū is going into this election campaign with a lot more that we know we have to achieve. Here’s a list of some of our election priorities in 2023:
- Save Fair Pay Agreements
- Living Wage for more workers
- No more lower minimum wage for youth and trainees
- Equal pay and pay transparency
- A Just Transition
- Increase rest breaks from 10 to 15 minutes
- Free dental care integrated with the public health system
- Public housing that is affordable, accessable, and secure
