Many strands, one movement
The election is on 7 November this year.
E tū is running a campaign to make sure our members, their whānau, their communities, and their workplaces are enrolled and ready to vote. We want a worker-friendly, Labour-led government that will act on the cost of living.
The current Government has made life harder for workers. It scrapped Fair Pay Agreements, which would have lifted wages for cleaners, security guards, and thousands of others. It cancelled pay equity for female-dominated workforces like aged care and disability support. It has weakened the health and safety laws that keep people safe at work. Minimum wage rises have been lower than inflation, taking workers backwards.
The Government has also changed the rules on voting. You now need to be enrolled before voting opens. If you are not enrolled in time, you will not be able to vote. If you have moved house since the last election, you will probably need to update your details.
The key dates are:
- Enrol or update your details by 25 October
- Voting opens 26 October
- Election day is 7 November
Make sure your vote counts. Head to www.vote.nz today to check your details, update them, or enrol for the first time. You can also call the Electoral Commission on 0800 36 76 56.
Be part of the campaign
It will take all of us to make a difference. Talk to your workmates, your whānau, and your community about why it matters to enrol and vote.

E tū election priorities
E tū is working to support a Labour-led government that will act on the things that matter to workers. Our priorities include:
- Reverse bad laws
To repeal the Employment Leave Act, the ability to deduct money from workers who undertake partial strikes, to restore full personal grievance rights, and remove the 90-day trial period. - Fair Pay Agreements
To introduce Fair Pay Agreements legislation within the first 100 days in office. - Living Wage
To pay all directly employed public sector workers, Crown entity workers, employees of entities with at least 50 percent public ownership, and outsourced or contracted workers delivering government services, no less than the Living Wage. - Pay equity
To restore the 2020 pay equity legislation and prioritise the settlement for care and support workers. - In-between travel for home care workers
To commit to an immediate and sustained uplift in in-between travel, linked annually to an independent Statistics NZ indicator. - Safe staffing
To develop a fully funded, enforceable safe-staffing model for aged residential care. - Collective bargaining
To provide for automatic union membership by ensuring workers covered by a collective agreement or where bargaining initiation has occurred will be covered by the relevant union and collective terms unless they choose to genuinely negotiate with the employer for an individual agreement. - Health and safety
To reverse the changes from the Health and Safety Amendment Act 2026 and strengthen the health and safety system so every person can come home from work unharmed. - Contractor/employee status laws
To set a statutory test for worker classification so misclassified contractors can challenge their status
efficiently. - Just transition
To ensure workers have access to ongoing vocational education, redundancy and income protection, and a strong voice through unions during economic transformation driven by climate change, technological change, and AI.
